Service Description
This course is designed to help dogs learn Scent Work in a calm, structured way that supports confidence, focus and understanding. It is designed for working breeds and working-type crosses aged 10 months or more that like to use their brains, but may become over-excited in fast-paced classes. Owners do not need any previous Scent Work experience, but want to enjoy structured, thoughtful training. This course harnesses the traits of working breeds which have been bred to problem-solve, work independently and stay engaged over periods of time; dogs that thrive on receiving clear information and doing a job that makes sense. Group Structure: Maximum of 4 dogs per group Dogs work one at a time in short bursts While one dog works, the others rest This structure helps keep arousal levels low, prevent frustration and support clearer learning. Short sessions help dogs to stay motivated and engaged without becoming mentally tired. Resting while other dogs work is part of the training. Early sessions will focus on learning how to search, learning how to indicate and building confidence without pressure. Scent (we will be using oils) is introduced after the dog has understood the job. As a handler, you will be asked to stay calm and neutral, limit talking and directing, trust your dog to problem-solve, and follow the trainer's guidance. This course may not be the right fit for you if you're looking for a fast, high energy scent game, you prefer lots of talking and handling during training, your dog struggles to settle with other dogs around, or you're hoping for quick results as opposed to steady learning. If you are unsure, you're always welcome to get in touch for a chat before booking. What to bring: Flat collar or well-fitting harness Lead (not retractable. Cancellation Policy
At Working Wonders Dog Training, I value your time and commitment — just as I value mine. Consistency is key to your dog’s progress, and clear communication helps us make the most of every session together. Cancellations and Rescheduling • If you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, please send a text message to 0418 279 009 as soon as possible. • At least 24 hours’ notice is required for all cancellations. • Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur the full session fee. Inclement Weather • If a session needs to be cancelled due to severe weather conditions, there will be no charge. • I’ll contact you if the weather is unsuitable for training and arrange a rescheduled time. Arriving on Time • Please aim to arrive a few minutes early so we can start promptly. • Sessions will finish at the scheduled time even if you arrive late, as other clients may be booked immediately afterwards. Health and Safety • Please let me know if your dog or anyone in your household is unwell or has a contagious condition (canine or human!). • Safety for both people and dogs is my top priority — if conditions are unsafe to proceed, I reserve the right to end a session early or reschedule. Consistency and Progress • Training works best with regular attendance and ongoing practice between sessions. • I’ll provide written notes or homework sheets so you can continue working on your dog’s skills at home.
