The Teenage Tune-Up
Suitable for dogs from approx 4 to 24 months old
Service Description
This programme is suitable for dogs from around four months of age through adolescence, particularly where early training was missed, inconsistent, or didn’t quite stick. Although called a “Teen” programme, it is equally appropriate for younger puppies who are past the early settling-in stage and need structured guidance to build everyday skills and calmer behaviour. From around 5/6 to 18/24 months, dogs go through their adolescent "teenage" phase. Much like human teenagers, they can be challenging, full of energy, and at times seem to forget everything they once knew. This is completely normal - and with the right support, it can also be a time of huge progress. Why training during this stage matters Adolescence is when many dogs are rehomed or develop long-term behaviour struggles. Hormones, growth, and newfound independence can make them push boundaries and test patience. By investing in training now, you're giving your dog the tools to become a calm, reliable adult - and saving yourself years of frustration. Common Teenage Dog Challenges You may notice your dog: * Ignoring recall as if they've "gone deaf" * Pulling on the lead * Jumping up or greeting over-enthusiastically * Becoming more distracted by people, dogs, or scents * Forgetting previously learned behaviours These are not signs of failure. They're signs your dog needs guidance, structure, and positive reinforcement. What You'll Gain in Training * Reliable recall - even around distractions * Loose leash walking - without the pulling battles * Calm greetings - with people and dogs * Focus and Engagement - teaching your dog that you're worth paying attention to * Impulse Control - helping them think before they act * Confidence Building - reducing frustration and stress for both of you
