The Family Puppy
Foundation Skills For Life. Puppies 10 weeks to 6 months old
Service Description
Congratulations on welcoming your new puppy! Puppies don't come pre-programmed (if only they did), so it's our job to guide them into becoming well-mannered companions who fit happily into our homes and lifestyles. As your puppy's guardian, you hold a huge amount of social currency in shaping their future. Your puppy depends on you completely for their welfare, guidance and learning - and I'm here to make that journey fun, rewarding, and stress-free! Over the course of the programme, you and your puppy will engage in learning essential skills for everyday life, resulting in a confident puppy who is able to make good choices. Training sessions can be purchased individually, but for best results, aim to complete the full 5 session programme. What We'll Cover Together. Each session we will focus on different skills: * Settling In & Building Confidence (choice, trust, calm handling) * Loose Lead Walking & Engagement * Recall & Play * Calm Greetings & Self Control * Life Skills in the Real World You'll learn how arousal or stress affects learning, why enrichment and rest are just as important as training, and how to set up your puppy for long-term success. How The Training Works. Home visits: These sessions are the perfect way to get things right from the start. I'll show you how to manage your puppy's environment, creating predictable patterns that help them feel safe, secure, and able to learn. Progression: As training develops, I recommend sessions in new environments, so your puppy can practise skills in different settings. Force-free methods: I use science backed, positive, reward-based techniques - with food, toys and praise - to build trust and motivation. Balanced pace: Puppies tire quickly! Your puppy won't be "in school" for a full hour - there are puppy breaks incorporated into each session, during which time I can coach you in key skills (such as clicker training) and you can ask me any questions. Practical Details. In home training may incur a $20 travel surcharge (e.g Bargara/Innes Park/Burnett Heads/Moore Park Beach) Your puppy will need: A flat collar and/or a well-fitting harness. A standard leash. I do not advocate the use of check chains, prong collars or e-collars. By the end of the course, you'll have the knowledge, confidence and skills to give your puppy the best start in life.
